2009 TALK BACK TO BIG TOBACCO ! SCRIPT & STORYBOARD CONTEST

tal_back

The 2009 Talk Back to Big Tobacco! Script & Storyboard Contest has officially launched!

We’re looking for radio scripts and TV storyboards for 30-second ads written by New Mexico youth, aimed at preventing tobacco use among young people.  We're particularly interested in ads targeting low-income, Native American, and/or LGBT youth, as well as storyboards & scripts in languages other than English.

The contest is sponsored by NMMLP with support from the New Mexico Department of Health’s Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program (TUPAC).  The deadline for entries is Dec. 4.  In January, we’ll pick eight winners to receive $500 prizes.

Visit www.talkback.nmmlp.org for more information as well as complete contest rules, entry forms, and more.

ALBUQUERQUE MAYORAL CANDIDATES QUESTIONED ON HATE SPEECH

forumOn August 29th, New Mexico Media Literacy Project staff participated in a Community Forum for Albuquerque’s Mayoral and City Council candidates at the La Mesa Presbyterian Church. The forum was hosted by Albuquerque party of La Raza Unida.

NMMLP also submitted questions to be asked of the candidates that focused on universal broadband access and hate speech. Both topics are projects NMMLP will direct attention to in the coming year.

In addition, elisa guadalupe pintor (pictured at right in yellow) polled attendees for NMMLP on their opinions about hate speech, including questions such as:

  1. Do you know who Lou Dobbs is?
  2. Would you support a campaign to get Lou Dobbs off of CNN?
  3. Would you support a hate speech ordinance for Albuquerque?
