Cultivating critical thinking and activism in our media culture to build healthy and just communities.
New Mexico Media Literacy Project - www.nmmlp.org
Media literacy - the ability to critically consume and create media - is an essential skill in today's world.

Since its founding in 1993, the New Mexico Media Literacy Project has trained thousands of media educators and media activists from across the country in our acclaimed Catalyst Institute.

This intensive training in media literacy concepts and skills has planted many seeds over the years.  Our participants have integrated media literacy into a wide range of work, and many have created new programs and new organizations.

Catalyst Institute, July 2007

Over the past fifteen years, we’ve witnessed media literacy and media activism become widely integrated into school curricula, community organizing, public health programs, social justice work, and many other areas.

After delivering over 40 Catalyst Institutes, we recognize that the demand for media literacy training and the need for particular media literacy topics reflect the social, political, and economic landscape of our culture.  As such, the agenda and format of our Catalyst Institute will change each year.

The Catalyst Institute scheduled for July 8-9, 2009 has been canceled.
